RoA Police Chief - "The Dashnaks are our friends"

When asked if the recent decision by the ARF to quit the coalition meant that the police would be dragging out old opened files on ARF members, RoA Police Chief Alik Sargsyan commented at a press conference held today that the police aren't preparing to arrest any ARF members or to open up any files. He added that the police have never encountered any problems with the ARF or its actions. "We aren't interested in opening up any old police dossiers. The Dashnaks are our friends and I am convinced that whatever their status, even in the opposition, they will assist the state and will transfer their experience. They are a group of people concerned about Armenia and who feel for her welfare," commented the police chief. Chief Sargsyan also revealed that two of General Manvel Grigoryan's bodyguards had been arrested earlier today on charges of causing bodily harm to the general. "The incident was recorded yesterday. An investigation is presently underway. The aggrieved party will come in to identify the perpetrators and a case will be made," stated the police chief. Chief of Police Alik Sargsyan reported that in the criminal assault case of Edik Baghdasaryan, President of the Investigative Journalists NGO, a court appointed psychological examination of the accused would be completed in the next few days and that the case is being prepared to go to court by May 3 or 4. Chief Sargsyan also commented that as of now the police haven't made any positive head way into the murder several months ago of Deputy Police Chief Gevorg Mheryan but he promised that the case would be solved since, " There is not one police officer who feels at peace right now."
