People's Party Leader - "We'll surpass 10% in the May 31 election"

Tigran Karapetyan, President of the People's Party, told reporters that he was sure the party would garner at least 10% of the vote in the upcoming May 31 municipal elections. Mr. Karapetyan stated that those citizens tired of lies and political polarizations and who don't agree with either the regime or those of the "HHZh"  (Pan-National Movement) would cast votes for the People's Party. "We will collaborate with the opposition to safeguard our votes. This includes the HAK (Armenian National Congress). This time around, we will not allow the votes we receive to be hijacked," Mr. Karapetyan said. He promised that the party would take to the streets in full force if the election is tampered with; whether that means 100 or 10,000 supporters. Mr. Karapetyan claimed that fear tactics were being used in the pre-election campaign and that fear is a dehumanizing factor. He also declared that the parties in this election campaign were proposing nothing new. Every election period streets are asphalted, Mr. Karapetyan noted, but added that this could not be regarded as a election platform. "Our approach is to create an atmosphere of trust and to foment civil relations with people. This is the crux of our platform. What does it mean when a person on a fixed 30,000 monthly pension has to pay 15,000 for a notarized letter? That person has to survive on the pension he is given. How much more can such people give," Mr. Karapetyan asked rhetorically. The charismatic leader of the People's Party said that ten ALM TV station reporters armed with video cameras would monitor those polling booths known for "tampering with the votes of the party".
