Armenian Journalists Condemn Press Crackdown in Iran

A number of Armenian reporters and journalists have issued a public statement in support of a June 25 declaration by Reporters Sans Frontieres condemning the arrest of their counterparts in Iran as a result of the government crackdown on the local press after the disputed Iranian presidential elections.

In their statement, the Armenian reporters announced that they have taken this step as individuals and that their action does not necessarily represent the views of the publications they work for. The Armenian journalist also note that cyber-space bloggers in Iran have also been detained. The Armenian reporters also state that they are troubled by the arrest of hundreds of Iranian opposition intellectuals and ordinary citizens.

Those signing the statement include: Taguhi Torosyan, Karin Grigoryan, Seda Papoyan, Anahit Hayrapetyan, Sara Khojoyan, Sona Grigoryan, Nazeli Ohanyan, Vaghinak Ghazaryan, Anahit Minasyan, Ofelia Zakaryan, Nazik Armenakyan, Lusine Petrosyan, Nvard Manvelyan, Gayane Gevorgyan, Haykaram Nahapetyan, Harout Ekmanian, Lousine Musayelyan, Shushan Harutyunyan, Inna Mkhitaryan and Anjela Harutyunyan.
