Samvel Karapetyan - Cultural Genocide Awaits Any Liberated Lands Returned to Azerbaijan

10_09-s_karapetyanSamvel Karapetyan, Director of the RoA Branch of the Armenian Architectural Research Center, today stated that Armenians have already made a detrimental concession as evidenced that it is twenty years that Northern Artsakh has been depopulated of Armenians. "We talk about and brag about the fact that we are ready to make painful concessions, but we have already done so," stated the outspoken Mr. Karapetyan at a press conference held today. He went on to say that this fact has not been noted anywhere in Armenia and that it does not bode well for Armenian diplomatic moves in the future. "He, who has lost out and is not aware of the fact, is bound to lose again." Mr. Karapetyan rhetorically asked what di the RoA Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Vardan Oskanian, do when the Armenian cemetery in Jugha was desecrated and destroyed recently, an event that Mr. Karapetyan described as a posthumous second genocide of the Armenians of Nakhijevan. The specialist said that Armenia must speak tio the world in the language of culture and that instead of babbling about concessions, Armenia must make the world understand that if any territories were to be returned to Azerbaijan the entire world would suffer from a cultural standpoint. "We didn’t have the self-dignity to make the world comprehend the scope of our loss that if we make a line in the sand and give back territory on the other side to the Azeris that all cultural traces and history will be wiped away. Yes, Armenians will be the first victims but world culture will come out a loser as well," Mr. Karapetyan noted, adding that if we had devoted our energies in this direction at the time we would have garnered much moral support.
