6th Annual "Agro-Shirak Expo" Kicks Off in Gyumri

The 6th annual Agro-Shirak Expo is now underway in Gyumri, affording both commercial and individual growers and agricultural agencies to meet, exchange ideas and knowledge and to market their wares. The expo is the brainchild of the Shirak Competition Center in Gyumri For the first time this year, farmers’ unions from the communities of Jrapi, Meghrashat and Pemzashen are also participating in the expo as well as representatives of the Ulyanovsk region. Shirak Competition Center Director Gayaneh Avagyan sees the contribution made by the annual expos as positive. "We have permanent participants and organizations that join us on an interim basis. Last year we only had 20-25 exhibitors but this year the number has risen to 35. We afford the opportunity for these groups to show off the full range of their products and to forge new links with others in the sector." Director Avagyan stressed that the aim of such expos was to assist in the development of the internal market. This year the expo has also attracted enterprises from Vanadzor and Yerevan. Gyumri resident Nouneh Yeghoyan had just purchased a few pair of socks from one of the booths and was quite satisfied. "These things cost much more in the stores. Here they are sold cheap. We clean the courtyard of the Holy Saviour Church and hear about this event every year. We come and buy a few items." The only thing that annoyed her was the fact that she and others were not permitted to sample the food items on display. She stated that the exhibitors told her that the food morsels were for guests only.
