Raffi Hovannisian: We Must Remind Turkey and Azerbaijan of “Occupied” Armenian Lands

Heritage Party MP Raffi Hovannisian stated today that while he thought President Sargsyan’s TV address to the nation yesterday, declaring a halt to the Protocols ratification process, a sound and successful statement, he still believes there is a wide gulf between words and action given that Armenia has not withdrawn its signature from the documents. "That signature signifies that we agree to the deprivation of our homeland and it certifies the consequences of the Genocide. By it, we insult the memory of Deir-Zor and forgo our Nuremburg trial," said Hovannisian. Mr. Hovannisian today repeated his assertion that preconditions existed in the Armenian-Turkish normalization process from the start, implemented by Turkey. He said that while Turkey labels the liberation of Karabakh as "occupation", we must remind Ankara that Turkey continues to occupy western Armenia, adding that Yerevan must remind Azerbaijan about Nakhijevan, Shahumyan and Getashen. Mr. Hovannisian said that yesterday’s address by President Sargsyan was an "admission that a mistake had been made and a confession."
