Samvel Petrosyan, the Akhalkalak Police Chief, responds to questions posed by Hetq regarding the Argishti Kiviryan case. Mr. Karapetyan, today, at the Argishti Kiviryan press conference, certain criticism was directed at you, alleging that you were behind the assault of Kiviryan, If he has facts, let him take them to law enforcement for an investigation. You have verified that one of those arrested, Vladik Serobyan, is a relative of yours. Is he a close relative? Yes, he is a relation. But I am not stupid enough to tell him to go assault someone or attempt murder, or some such thing. He’s not a close relative, but we are related. Kiviryan claims that those arrested met with you two days before the incident. Is this true? If he is a relative then he could have constant contact with me. What about Gurgen Kilikyan. Is he a relative? I have no knowledge of that guy in general. Did you meet with Gurgen Kilikyan two days before the attempted murder? But, I can’t tell you that. Every day I meet with 1,000 people, 1,000. If one of them then goes and meets with another, it doesn’t mean that I organized it. And did you ever issue threats against A. Kiviryan regarding articles he wrote against you? Threats? No. I called him a ‘con artist’. He really doesn’t know what he’s writing about. It’s all made-up stuff. There were never any threats. Samvel Petrosyan, I mean myself, isn’t the sort of person to stoop to the same low level as someone who writes lies. I don’t lower myself to that and make threats. I really never pay much attention to all that. I don’t find what he writes of any interests. Who cares if four people read what he writes and get a bad impression of me. The other 96, who recognize me, know the sort of person I am. And do you have any sort of connections with high-level Armenian officials? The fact that two individuals in custody were released is based on your connections. No? Why do you ask that? There is law-enforcement that deals with such matters. I don’t know the status of the case. I know with 100% certainty that the day will come when the organizers of the attempted murder will be exposed. When that time comes, let Argishti Kiviryan publicly write that he was wrong and apologize to Samvel Petrosyan. Haven’t you had personal problems with Kiviryan? I absolutely do not know the man. How would you respond to the statement that you are involved in the arrests and persecutions that have taken place in Javakhk? There are six criminal cases initiated against Vahagn Chakhalyan. Before me there were three police chiefs. Five of the cases were launched by two police chiefs; and one case by me. What did Vahagn Chakhalyan do that these other police chiefs launched criminal cases against him? What was the Criminal Code article and indictment that you launched? How is that important? Vahagn Chakhalyan appeared before the Georgian government. They execute whatever the Georgian government tells them. They cooperate with the Georgian government. So why did they oppose each other later on and arrest Chakhalyan? The reason is that later he wanted more than the conditions would allow. Vahagn Chakhalyan started serious fights, showed resistance and beat people. Did your son have any involvement in those fights? My son was standing in the middle of the quarrel. 70 individuals, the Vahagn Chakhalyan’s, attacked the one guy. It’s all in the criminal case file, noted down. During my time, the criminal case involving Chakhalyan was initiated based upon his complaint, but it later turned against him. P.S. Samvel Petrosyan said that we should duly note who he was. In his words, he fought in the Artsakh War from 1989-1993. He participated in military operations in Voskepar and fired on the enemy. When we asked what unit he was attached to, he replied, "Come on; let’s not go into details now. If necessary, I’ll give you the documents."
