“Turkey has Ruined its Reputation as a Reliable Negotiation Partner”

As part of the President of Armenia’s official visit to the Kingdom of Belgium, on 25 May Mr. Sargsyan met with NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen.  During their discussions, the two leaders exchanged ideas on the current stage in the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh issue and they also spoke about the frozen process of establishing relations between Armenia and Turkey. The President of Armenia noted that by dictating pre-conditions and not adhering to agreed timelines, Turkey had ruined its reputation as a reliable partner in negotiations. The two sides noted with satisfaction that there had been considerable progress in Armenia-NATO relations over the past decade and there was currently a lot of active dialogue in political and military matters.  Armenia’s implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan, the NATO military exercises conducted in Armenia and the country’s increasing role in NATO peacekeeping missions worldwide were areas that were especially commended. President Sargsyan emphasized the importance of the support that NATO had shown in the implementation of reforms in the armed forces of Armenia.
