Armen Parsadanyan, who heads the Kapan Regional Development Foundation" has warned of a new round of public protests next year if local and national authorities do not halt uranium mining operations in the southern Armenian Syunik Marz. Mr. Parsadanyan said that a demonstration of over 3,000 in Kapan and an open letter signed by over 11,000 local residents hasn’t convinced various political and commercial interests that the mining should stop.

He added that concerns for the environment and health of area residents should take priority over mining profits for a few.
