Diverse Group Protesting Outside Government Building

Banned street vendors joined by others In another growing sign of social unrest in Armenia, vendors who once plied their wares on the streets in Yerevan before the new mayor’s crackdown are presently demonstrating outside the Government House in the Armenian capital.

The vendors have been joined by relatives of soldiers killed or injured in non-combat related incidents, and former residents evicted from Northern Avenue to make way for luxury apartment buildings. They were to have been joined by drivers protesting new customs laws imposing new restrictions and fees on Georgian registered vehicles. Heritage Party MP Anahit Bakhshyan has told the press that police have blocked cars from Gyumri and Vanadzor.
