Still No Explanation for Yesterday's Gyumri Police Lockdown

Police officer swipes car key of local journalist After yesterday’s incidents in Gyumri, no one in their right mind would seek out the protection of the local police in a time of need. It seems the cops there act as they please and "to hell" with the law and civil rights. Nadezhda Sargsyan, who heads the Asparez Journalists' Club, had her car keys snatched out of her hand by a police officer during yesterday protest action pitting car owners with Georgian license plates against local law enforcement that blocked the roads leaving the town. The drivers were scheduled to drive to Yerevan to voice their concerns at a rally outside the Government Building. Also the Gyumri Municipality locked its doors, when Heritage Party MP’s tried to enter to find out why the police were preventing citizens from driving their cars. MP Ruben Hakobyan jokingly went around asking "if there were any police officers in Gyumri who could speak", since they all clammed up when he asked why they were illegally blocking the roads. Naturally, Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan and Shirak Regional Governor Ashot Giziryan, were nowhere to be seen. The arbitrary police traffic lockdown was lifted at 6 pm, just as suddenly and without warning as it had been launched eleven hours earlier.
