Appeals Court in Haystack Burning Case Basically Sustains Lower Court Ruling

After reviewing the case of four young men found guilty of setting alight a haystack belonging to a villager in the Norapat village in Armavir, the Court of Appeals basically let the lower court’s decision remain as is.

The accused, Aram Moughalyan, Robert Piloyan, Artour Klyan and Robert Arakelyan, will thus have to serve out their prison sentences.

The court did however cut the sentences of the first two from two years and six months to two years and four months. They were fined 50,000 AMD instead.

The other two defendants also had their sentences cut a bit and were also fined instead.

Throughout the appeal, their lawyers had motioned for the recusal of the presiding judges, arguing that they were prejudiced. The motion was denied.

The four will take their case to the Court of Cassation.
