Prosperous Armenia Official to Reporters: 'Don't Jump the Gun'

While Hetq hasn’t been able to get in touch with Prosperous Armenia MP Davit Kocharyan about his recent resignation (he’s currently not in Armenia), party parliamentary faction leader Naira Zohrabyan told us that she’d find out once he returns.

Zohrabyan read us Kocharyan’s resignation request that was filed on April 11but which doesn’t give any particulars.

When we asked about the rumors that Kocharyan also wishes to quit the party, Zohrabyan said this was the first she had heard on the matter and that she couldn’t comment.

To our question whether Kocharyan’s resignation was linked to the party’s decision not to enter into a coalition with the new government, Zohrabyan said that if this was the case the MP would have quit the party outright rather than resign his parliamentary seat.

Zohrabyan also brushed aside our observation that there is talk that other Prosperous Party MPs are thinking of leaving the party ranks as well.

She advised reporters not to jump the gun when making such observations since such talk can turn out to be baseless very quickly.
