Bavra Residents Hand Defeat to Incumbent Republican Party Mayor

The incumbent ruling Republican Party mayor of Bavra lost his re-election bid in this northern Armenian town in Shirak Province near the border with Georgia.

Mayor Mkrtich Petrosyan was defeated by Koryun Soumboulyan by a vote of 176 to 127. 311 of the town’s 480 registered voters cast ballots.

In Sarnaghbyur, a community of 2,502 registered voters in Shirak Province, incumbent Mayor Sevak Madatyan was re-elected by a vote of 752 to 615.

A heated three way battle for the mayoral spot took place in Tsoghamarg, also in Shirak, resulting in a defeat for the incumbent, Hovsep Tonoyan.

Candidate Gnel Barseghyan garnered 108 of the 300 votes cast. Coming in second was Arman Avagyan with 103 votes, followed by Tonoyan with 83.
