The coordinating committee representing Kimprom workers in Vandzor threatened to stage an open-ended strike if presidential advisor Armen Movsisyan didn’t meet with them by 10 am on June 16.

Workers at the plant have staged a number of protests demanding one year of back wages.

Hrachik Martirosyan, who sits on the coordinating council, said they were demanding a sit down with Armen Movsisyan because he’s the former Armenian energy minister and is familiar with the problems at Kimprom.

“In addition, there’s a high likelihood that Armen Movsisyan is also one of the owners of Kimprom because top regional officials have sent us to him for a resolution of our problems,” Martirosyan said.

Martirosyan said the workers would also stage demonstrations in the square opposite the Lori Regional Government building.

He also says that due to their protests, Armen Movsisyan paid most Kimprom workers their December 2013 wages and that only thirty haven’t been paid.

Thus, the company still owes workers for four months of wages in 2012 and for the first six months of this year.
