A Nairit Primer: Must Reading for Armenia’s Prime Minister

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan needs to come clean regarding his complicity in the Nairit rubber factory financial fiasco cover-up. The prime minister was less than candid when he told Nairit employees demonstrating outside the Government Building this Thursday demanding that the plant be reopened and they be paid one year in back wages that he was ‘out of the loop’. “We are at our wits end. We’ve been studying the matter for two months now and have yet to figure out who did what and how,” Abrahamyan said.

“We’re looking for the owner but can’t find him.” When asked why no one has been charged in the financial collapse of Nairit, Abrahamyan could only say, “We will clarify who is responsible and punish them.” The fact is that a year ago when a few MPs attempted to set up a special investigative committee to look into the Nairit matter, then National Assembly President Hovik Abrahamyan pulled out all the plugs to derail the initiative. The committee never materialized.

To make it easier for PM Abrahamyan to get to the truth, we are presenting a list of Hetq articles for him to read. They lay out the facts of why Nairit went belly up and the culprits responsible in detail. If Hovik Abrahamyan wants to delve further into the matter, he can petition the Prosecutor General to have presidential advisor and former Energy Minister Armen Movsisyan taken into custody for questioning.

The same goes for Vahan Melkonyan, Interstate Bank’s representative in Armenia. If Hovik Abrahamyan also wants the public at large to be informed as to the facts, in addition to himself, I would suggest that Armenian Public TV allocates one hour of air time to Hetq. Hetq would take the opportunity to expose what crimes were committed and by what state officials. Nairit case materials have also been gathered by the General Investigation Department of the Armenian Police. Police Chief Vladimir Gasparyan had the investigation dropped. PM Abrahamyan can also familiarize himself with criminal cases related to Nairit that were subsequently dropped. There is quite a bit of interesting testimony to be found.

P.S. Mr. Prime Minister, to read the aforementioned Hetq articles, use the links on the left.
