Prosperous Armenia MP Doesn't Rule Out Hand of Azerbaijan in Hayrapetyan's Arrest

Regarding the July 15 arrest of Artsakh native businessman Levon Hayrapetyan in Moscow, Prosperous Armenia MP Grigori Margaryan told Hetq that while he saw no political undertones in the matter, he could not rule out the hand of Baku.

“I do not rule out the possibility of Azerbaijani complicity in the matter, even though I don’t see evidence of it,” Margaryan told Hetq.

Russian law enforcement arrested Hayrapetyan at a Moscow airport on suspicion that he is linked to a Russian organized crime syndicate.

Margaryan, a member of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on European Integration said he based this opinion on his experience as a member of the Armenian delegation to PACE where he witnessed the “underhanded and dirty” working practices of Azerbaijani delegates.

“They will stop at nothing, no matter how underhanded and dastardly. That’s why I can’t rule out the possibility of an Azerbaijani connection,” Margaryan said.

The MP categorized as baseless theories circulating in the Armenian press that Hayrapetyan’s arrest was somehow linked to worsening Armenian-Russian relations.

“Time will reveal all. All those charges levied against our businessman [Hayrapetyan] I believe will soon be righted,” Margaryan told Hetq.
