Police Detain Russian Citizen Who Spray Painted Garni Temple

Russian citizen Maksim Nikitenko  was handed over to local authorities after defacing the Garni Temple in Armenia with spray paint yesterday morning, according to the Ministry of Culture’s Historical and Cultural Heritage Protection Agency.

Evidently the man was caught in the act by Garni museum staffers who then notified the ministry’s protection agency.

Kotayk police were then called in to investigate.

The graffitist faces a fine from 50,000 - 80,000 AMD (US$122 - 196).

What kindf of fine is that? For spoiling an ancient temple and landmark? Such an act would be at least 500 000 USD in America - if they had one temple like that!
