Etchmiadzin Large Store Owners, In a Tizzy Over Pricing, Close Doors

Four of the largest stores along the main commercial avenue in Etchmiadzin have been closed by their owners due to the weakening AMD.

In one night the national currency of Armenia depreciated another 25 drams against the US Dollar to 550 AMD per.

Store owners, who say they are at a loss when it comes to pricing their comestibles, are nevertheless taking a practical approach by raising prices across the board.

One local customer complained that he didn't know where to shop since prices at the smaller stores that have remained opened are going up.

“Yesterday, almonds cost 7,200 drams per kilo. Today the price is 9,000,” he told Hetq.
