Armenian Prime Minister: 'We'll continue our floating currency policy'

Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, in a statement issued today, pointed to currency speculation as one factor in the weakening on the Armenian Dram.

Abrahamyan claimed that his government would continue to adopt a floating currency policy, noting that such a course was vital for long-term economic stability.

The prime minister said that a weakening AMD was also the result of global and regional financial developments, but failed to specify what they are.

Abrahamyan said that the board of directors of Armenia’s Central Bank would today present detailed explanations to the public regarding the current crisis and that the government is doing all it can to prevent unjustified retail price hikes.
