
Armenian Military Unit Heads to Germany, Then Afghanistan
A contingent of 65 Armenian military personnel left yesterday for Germany for 3-4 weeks of training before being sent to Afghanistan as part of the the International Security Assistance Force.
The unit will be dispatched to the northern Afghan town of Mazar-i-Sharif to assist in the defense of the airport.
Germany took command of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)'s Regional Area North at the end of March 2006.
The airfield functions as a main hub for the exchange of personnel as well as air cargo for the international stabilization and peace support forces in northern Afghanistan.
