After raising the issue of the environmental damage being caused by the tailings dam and nighttime exhaust emissions from the Akhtala Mining Company on several occasions without any adequate response, the Civil Voice NGO decided to stage a protest in the affected area. 

Twenty or so Civil Voice volunteers first staged a protest at the site, called Nahataki Dzor, and then took up positions opposite the Akhtala offices. 

The volunteers wanted to meet wit Akhtala management to discuss their concerns.
