New Bagratashen Customs House Nears Completion

Armenia’s Ministry of Finance has announced that by next year the country will have modernized customs checkpoints.

Bagratashen, on Armenia’s northern border with Georgia, was the first checkpoint scheduled for modernization in August 2013 and the bulk of the work will be completed by September of this year, according to Gougark Regional Customs’ Chief Samvel Safaryan.

Safaryan said that clearing customs will now take a matter of minutes. Cargo trucks and passenger cars will enter and leave by separate lanes.

It is estimated that 70% of Armenia’s exports leave via the customs checkpoints in the country’s Gougark region.
