Yerevan’s Investigative Committee has launched a criminal investigation into yesterday’s daylight mugging in downtown Yerevan of a 32 year-old man who was carrying US$38,000 on his person.

The attack took place around noon on July 9 at the intersection of Pushkin and Saryan Streets.

The muggers fled the scene, taking the cash as well as a MacBook and Iphone4.

Law enforcement agencies say the mugging victim had won some of the money he was carrying on a bet he had placed on July 3 on a Coppa America semi-final match.

The police have arrested three suspects and are continuing their investigation.
