Anthrax Case Leads to Temporary Ban on Importation of Meat for Personal Use at Border Crossings
To prevent the possible spread of anthrax, Armenia’s Food Safety Service (FSS) has banned the importation of large horned meat products for personal use into the country via the Bagratashen, Bavra and Gogavan border check points from August 5-19.
On August 4, a citizen of Armenia was diagnosed with anthrax at the Nork Infectious Disease Hospital.
A medical examination revealed that imported meat was the cause of the infection.
The FSS reports that no cases of anthrax in Armenian livestock have yet to be found.
