The military branch of Armenia's Investigative Committee has launched a criminal case into the death of three army officers on September 5 when the car they were in veered off the road and struck a tree near the village of Tzovak on the southeastern shore of Lake Sevan.

Captain Taron Sedrakyan, Major Grigor Sahakyan and Junior Officer Gevorg Vardanyan all died as a result of the accident.

Two other passengers in the car, also army personnel, were hospitalized and are reported to be in serious but stable condition.

The investigation, in its preliminary stage, is based on Article 242 of Armenia’s Criminal Code - Breach of traffic rules and operation of means of transportation.
