Armenian Foreign Minister Meets with Minsk Group Co-Chairs in NY: Condemns Azerbaijani Shelling of Tavoush

Immediately upon arriving in New York on a working visit to the U.N., Armenia’s Foreign Affairs Minister Edward Nalbanyan met with the Minsk Group Co-chairs to vent his anger regarding yesterday’s cross border shelling by Azerbaijan that resulted in three confirmed Armenian fatalities in Tavoush Province.

Nalbandyan, according to Armenia’s foreign ministry told the co-chairs that ongoing Azerbaijani violations of the ceasefire were unacceptable and said that Baku had made a tradition of destabilizing the situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border prior to high level international meetings.

“This latest ruse is Azerbaijan’s response to the productive expectations voiced by the Minsk Group Co-chairs regarding the negotiations between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” Nalbandyan said.

During the meeting, possible steps to stabilize the situation were discussed.
