Democratic Party of Armenia Opposes Constitutional Change Bill: "Poses Threat to National Security'

The Democratic Party of Armenia stated today that the bill presented to the constitutional changes committee was insufficient and does not correspond to the reforms it proposed.

The party states that by changing the model of governance, while essentially preserving various defective aspects, will not led to any serious change.

“We find it curious that a member of the committee claims that only those proposals were accepted that were agreed by and acceptable to the president of the republic. In the end, a one party system is being preserved,” reads the party’s statement.

“We find that the bill not only does not conform to our national-state interests and national value system, but that it poses a serious threat from a national security perspective for our country and people’s future,” the statement continues.

The party concludes by saying it will vote against any change and will launch a public campaign to explain its opposition to the people.
