Armenia's HAK Calls for Fair Televised Debate on Constitutional Change Issue

The Armenian National Congress (HAK) has called for a televised debate on proposed changes to the country’s constitution where supporters and opponents would be afforded equal coverage.

In a public statement, HAK noted that a recent program (Yerankyun) aired by Armenian Public TV was a fiasco in terms of equal coverage of the constitutional change issue since it was moderated by Armen Ashotyan, vice president of the ruling Republican Party and minister of education and science.

HAK argues that the audience was comprised of change supporters who were prompted to applaud every time a remark was made to ridicule the opposition position.

HAK concludes that the ruling regime appears to fear organizing a debate on Public TV where both sides are afforded equal conditions.
