Police Say They Have Arrested Suspect in Yerevan Shooting Death of Bank Employee

Law enforcement in Armenia report that they have identified a suspect in the November 24 shooting death of 32 year-old H. Atanyan on a downtown Yerevan street.

Atanyan, head of a bank's legal division, died on Vardanants Street after a man got out of his car and shot him with a hunting rifle. The gunman is said to have then placed the weapon in the trunk of his car and driven away.

Police have identified M.Poghosyan, a 54 year-old Yerevan resident, as the driver of the car.

Poghosyan is said to be a client of the bank where Atanyan worked and that he had a property quarrel with the bank.

Police say that Poghosyan had met with Atanyan at the bank just hours before the shooting.

Poghosyan was arrested later that day and that the rifle was seized.

Police say that they obtained a court order to examine camera footage at the scene of the crime.
