Anahit Bakhshyan: "I don’t understand the indifference of Drakhtik village parents regarding the education of their children."

The following is a public statement issued by education expert Anahit Bakhshyan.

On several occasions I have raised the alarm regarding the fact that the Drakhtik village school in Gegharkounik Province has no principal for a long time.

The question is why?

My answer is because, most likely, the village mayor, the provincial governor, and the head of the education department at the provincial government cannot agree as to a candidate.

The first candidate was the only teacher in the village with a certificate. That person wasn’t selected last year. Later, another candidate was sent to take a certificate exam. That person, after failing the exam several times, was finally issued a certificate and participated in the competition declared by the school’s governing council that took place on March 29. As the only candidate, that person wasn’t selected because the village mayor didn’t like the person.

Fine. And what about the residents, two of which are members of the governing council? Why aren’t they concerned as to who, in the end, will organize the education of their children? Why do they follow the whims of the village mayor? Why don’t they demand that a teacher, whom their children like the most, be the principal?

I don’t understand the indifference of Drakhtik village parents regarding the education of their children.

Finally, what does Mr. Grigoryan, the provincial governor, think of all this?
