Grape Growers Demand Payment; Stage Another Protest in Yerevan

By Diana Ghazaryan

Grape growers of Kaghtsrashen and surrounding villages again staged a protest outside the Government Building in Yerevan, demanding that they get paid for the grapes they delivered to the Vinar company.

The protestors were met by Deputy Minister of Agriculture Robert Markaryan who assured them they’d be paid tomorrow by 11 a.m.

Vinar Director Davit Galstyan also showed up and told the growers that he was simply waiting for a document to be notarized so that 1 100 million AMD bank loan could go through.

Not trusting Galstyan, the protestors accompanied him to the bank but were unable to get any information regarding the ‘pending’ loan. The loan officer was not present.

The protesters say that even if the 100 million loan goes through, the company has debt totaling 50 million and this will only allow Vinar to pay them a partial amount.

Feeling as if they’ve been given the run-around yet again, the protesters marched towards the Presidential Office on Baghramyan Avenue.
