Crimes Committed by Iranians While Visiting Armenia Have Dropped

At a meeting today in Yerevan with Iranian Minister of Justice Mustafa Pourmohamadi, Armenian Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan noted that the number of crimes committed by Iranian citizens while visiting Armenia has dropped substantially, and so to have the number of infractions committed against them while in Armenia.

The two officials also singled out the problems stemming from the fact that Iranian citizens aren’t familiar with laws in Armenia.

Kostanyan stressed that, taking into account the differences between the laws of the two countries, there is a need for a detailed and applicable bilateral legal assistance mechanism that will provide the opportunity for the correct organizing of legal defense to citizens of both countries.

Pourmohamadi, in turn, noted that more and more citizens of Iran are visiting Armenia and he said that these numbers are the best result of successful legal cooperation.

The two also discussed problems their countries are facing in the war against drug trafficking.
