According to Armenia’s Traffic Police, there are currently 179 traffic enforcement (speed) cameras operating throughout the country; 70 in the capital Yerevan alone.

As to whether they have been installed for revenue and not safety concerns remains a contested issue, in addition as to whether or not such cameras are effective in reducing traffic accidents in the first place.

There is also the matter of the increased use of electronic surveillance devices by the government.

None of these issues have even been methodically or independently studied.
