Disturbing Data: 16.8% of Children Under 5 in Armenia Overweight

According to the 2016 Global Nutrition Report, published by the International Food Policy Research Institute, the overweight prevalence for kids under five in Armenia stands at 16.8%.

Out of 126 countries ranked, Armenia ranked quite poorly at 119th place.

In terms of child stunting (low height for age), Armenia ranked 60th, with a prevalence rate of 20.8%, out of 132 countries studied.

In terms of child wasting (low weight for height), Armenia ranked 59th, with a prevalence rate of 4.2%, out of 130 countries.

Adults in Armenia seem to be doing poorly when it comes to being overweight and obese.

Out of the 190 countries ranked for adult overweight prevalence, Armenia came in at 101st place with a rate of 55.5%.

Armenia did somewhat better in terms of adult obesity. It ranked 88th out of 190 countries in terms of adult obesity prevalence with a rate of 19.5%.

Another disturbing finding is that out of the 185 countries ranked for the prevalence of anemia in women of reproductive age, Armenia came in at 101st place with a rate of 25.9%.

Adult diabetes also continues to be a problem in Armenia.

Out of the 190 countries ranked for adult diabetes prevalence, Armenia ranked 132nd with a rate of 11.5%.

I blame KFC coming to Armenia. It will only get worse if McDonald's opens there.
