Sefilyan Charged with Illegal Weapons Procurement: Refuses to Talk

Opposition activist and Artsakh War vet Jirayr Sefilyan has been official charged with Article 235 Part 2 of Armenia’s Criminal Code:  Illegal procurement, transportation or carrying of weapons, ammunition, explosives or explosive devices.

Sefilyan was arrested in Yerevan on June 20.

Armenia’s Investigative Committee (IC) released a statement today that adequate evidence had been amassed proving that Sefilyan had organized the procurement of arms and armament by a group of individuals and that the items had been stored in various locations.

The IC says that Sefilyan has not offered any testimony on his behalf, which is his right.

The IC says that as part of its investigation, Sefilyan’s house and workplace have been searched and that computers and documents have been seized.

Given the risks posed by Sefilyan, the IC says it has petitioned the court to issue pre-trial detention for him.

The IC says that eight other individuals have been implicated in the case. One of those charged is still on the run.
