Early this morning Pope Francis, who arrived yesterday in Armenia for a three-day pilgrimage, paid his respects at the Tzitzernakaberd Genocide Memorial on a hill overlooking Yerevan.

Pope Francis, accompanied by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Catholicos Garegin II, laid a wreath at the memorial’s eternal flame.

Pope Francis then went to the Genocide Museum-Institute and wrote a message in the visitors’ book reserved for dignitaries.
