Arayik Khandoyan (photo), a member of the Sasna Dzrer group that controls a Yerevan police building, has been wounded in the foot by a police sniper.

Varuzhan Avetisyan, another Sasna Dzrer member, reported the incident to the www.1in.am news site and warned that the group would have to resort to self-defense if the police continue to treat them as terrorists.

“It can be said that we have accomplished our mission. The people have risen up and are demonstrating and committing acts of disobedience. We hear about it on the radio. The people must rise up,” Avetisyan told the news site.

Avetisyan went on to say that the group was armed well enough to strike a serious blow to the police, but that they didn’t want further bloodshed.

“We wait for the people’s movement. Our agenda is legitimate. We await political processes. We urge the authorities not to adopt a policy of wearing us down one by one. Otherwise, we will be forced to defend ourselves,” concluded Avetisyan.
