Varsik and Arshak, who moved to Armenia five years ago from Mongolia, have finally received Armenian citizenship.

The girl and boy live with their mother, Bayandolgor (Bayina) Oyunchimeg, in Antaramej, a small village of 163 inhabitants at the foot of the Geghama Mountains in Armenia’s Gegharkounik Province.

Hetq wrote about the family last year in a piece entitled “From Mongolia to Antaramej: The Difficult Road to Becoming a Citizen of Armenia”.  

 Fourteen years ago Bayina married Hrahat Yeritsyan in Mongolia. Hrahat was a construction worker in Ulan Bator. Their two children, Varsik and Arshak, were born there. Hrahat Yeritsyan passed away last year.

Given that the marriage wasn’t registered, after Hrahat’s death, Bayina had to go to court to prove that the children were his.

Bayina told Hetq that she is planning to apply for Armenian citizenship as well.
