Armenia’s 2017 Draft Budget: Defense Gets 15.4%

Armenia’s 2017 draft budget amounts to 1.210 trillion AMD (US$2.551 billion).

Estimated expenditures will total 1.360 trillion AMD, leaving a deficit of some 150.1 billion AMD (US$3.162 million).

Social Protection: 408.9 billion AMD ($862 million)

General Public Services: 276.5 billion AMD ($583 million)

Defense: 209.8 billion AMD ($442.8 million)

Education 128.7 billion AMD ($271.3 million)

Public Order, Safety & Judicial Operations: 101.7 billion AMD ($214.4 million)

Economic Relations: 92.8 billion AMD ($195.6 million)

Healthcare: 85.7 billion AMD ($180.7 million)

Relaxation, Culture & Religion: 26 billion AMD ($54.8 million)

Education: 127.2 billion AMD

Economic Relations: 115.6 billion AMD

Healthcare: 88.9 billion AMD

Apartment Construction & Communal Services: 33.6 billion AMD

Relaxation, Culture & Religion: 27.3 billion AMD

What I would love from Hetq is some context. I know it's harder to develop a story around some numbers than to just publish the numbers themselves, but it would help readers to know what they represent. For example, how do these numbers compare to last year? Are there any big increases or decreases? From an insider's perspective, are any of the amounts surprising? E.g. was there a rumor that a certain budget would be cut or expanded? Adding that analysis is what would make Hetq a really cutting-edge news source.
