October 14 CSTO Statement Regarding Karabakh Conflict Settlement

Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has released a statement on the Karabakh conflict settlement adopted at a joint session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) held in Yerevan on October 14.

The statement says CSTO expresses its support for the agreements reached at the summits in Vienna (May 16) and St. Petersburg (June 20) designed to lessen tensions along the Line of Contact and to facilitate peaceful negotiations.

“Affirming the need to resolve the Karabakh conflict solely through peaceful means, we express support of the efforts by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs based on the norms of international rights, the UN charter and the Helsinki Final Act; i.e., principles of Non-Use of Force, Territorial Integrity, and the Equal Rights and Self-Determination of Peoples,” the statement reads.

(On October 14, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia hosted the joint session of the Council of Foreign Ministers, the Council of Defense Ministers and the Committee of Security Council Secretaries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member-states, chaired by Edward Nalbandian, the Chairman of the CSTO Council of Foreign Ministers and Foreign Minister of Armenia.)
