Armenian Government to Allocate $42,000 in Tuition Aid to Syrian-Armenian Students in Armenia

The government of Armenia will allocate 20 million AMD ($42,000) to cover the 2016-2017 academic year tuition costs of Syrian-Armenians studying at universities and primary/mid-level trade schools in Armenia.

The money will first go to the Ministry of Diaspora Affairs for eventual distribution.

The government has been allocating funds for this purpose since 2012.

In 2014, 26.1 million AMD was allocated; 24.6 million in 2015.

The government reports that 400 of the 500 Syrian-Armenians studying in Armenia need tuition assistance.

For the 2016-2017 academic year, the AGBU and the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation will allocate US$125,000 each to partially cover such tuition expenses. The 20 million AMD provided by the government will make up the difference.
