Armenian Minister of Economic Development and Investments Suren Karayan today met with Artak Avagyan, who has been assigned the task of saving Ashtarak Kat, the financially troubled dairy producer, this according to a government communique.

Ashtarak Kat (Milk) owes 70 million AMD ($146,000) to its suppliers and employees.

Minister Karayan said he wanted to understand if, and in what capacity, the company would continue to operate and how it would pay its debts.

Deputy Minister Tigran Khachatryan told reporters after the meeting that the company has had talks with former owners. He didn’t go into specifics.

Avagyan said that the company’s products were back on store shelves and that separate talks are being held with rural suppliers of milk.
