Razmik Zohrabyan - Upcoming Elections Must be Free and Fair

At yesterday’s Executive Board meeting of the Ruling Republican Party, it was decided to nominate Samvel Nikoyan as the new president of the National Assembly. Nikoyan is currently serving as the acting president after the resignation of Hovik Abrahamyan.

The board also voted to nominate MP Edvard Sharmazanov, who serves as the secretary of the Republican Party parliamentary faction, as the National Assembly’s vice-president.

At a news conference today, Republican Party VP Razmik Zohrabyan told reporters that former parliament president Hovik Abrahamyan attended yesterday’s board meeting and voted in favour of the above nominations.

Regarding the upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections in Armenia, Zohrabyan said it was incumbent that they be as free and fair as possible since the whole world would be watching.

Zohrabyan said that Hovik Abrahamyan had resigned specifically in order to devote himself fully to President Sargsyan re-election campaign as chief of staff.

“It’s a very important position and Hovik Abrahamyan has a wealth of experience. He will do all he can to ensure a Republican Party victory,” Zohrabyan said.
