21 Year-Old Heriknaz from Armenia Transforms Squash into Art

21-year-old Heriknaz Khachikyan is an artist who uses squash to make decorative pieces adorned with various traditional Armenian motifs.

A student at Yerevan’s Khachatur Abovyan Pedagogical University’s Department of Applied Arts, Khachikyan has been working with gourds (squash, zucchini, etc.) since the age of twelve, and now grows the vegetables in her native village of Yervandashat in Armavir Province.

She takes the gourds, dries and then processes the gourds, in order to decorate them.
