Artsakh Defense Minister: 'We will continue to exercise our right to self-defense'

Declaring that Artsakh will continue to exercise its right to self-defense, Levon Mnatsakanyan, the country’s defense minister, told the Interfax news agency that Azerbaijan was the aggressor on July 4 along the Line of Contact and that the Artsakh military did not target the civilian populace of Azerbaijan, a claim made by Baku.

What happened on July 4 along the Artsakh-Azerbaijan border depends on who you ask.

The Artsakh foreign ministry says that Azerbaijan was the aggressor, firing a TR-107 multiple rocket launcher installed near residential buildings in the Azerbaijani village of Alkhanlu. Artsakh forces merely responded, says the ministry.

Baku claims that Artsakh initiated the firing, killing an unspecified number of civilians.

Minister Mnatsakanyan says that Baku continues its inhumane policy of locating its gun emplacements within civilian areas.

The minister also advised Azerbaijan from refraining from such reckless military actions that can lead to unpredictable consequences.
