Tension on the Karabakh Line of Contact Last Week

During the period of July 2-8, there was a noticeable tension on the Line of Contact between the armed forces of Artsakh and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan violated the Karabakh ceasefire around 300 times, firing various caliber small arms, also 60 mm, 82 mm, and 120 mm mortars, D-44 artillery shells and grenade launchers in different parts of the frontline, this according to the Artsakh Ministry of Defense.

On July 4, the Azerbaijani armed forces employed D-30 artillery shells and TR -107 multiple rocket launcher system for the first time since the April aggression in 2016, in the southern direction of the Line of Contact, targeting the Armenian lines. Deploying the above-mentioned multiple rocket launcher systems in the area near the village of Alkhanlu, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces kept using its civilian population as a live shield for shelling the territory of Artsakh, thus grossly violating all the norms of international humanitarian law.

The Artsakh Ministry of Defense notes that the Artsakh Defense Army was forced to take counter-measures to suppress the fire of the Azerbaijani Army at the territory adjacent to a civilian settlement. The Artsakh Defense Army continues to monitor the situation along the entire Line of Contact.
