Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,
It is rather disappointing that you decided to publish online the commentary by David Boyajian, “Facing History, the Anti-Defamation League, and the Silence of the Lambs,” (12/6/11), without fact checking or making an inquiry with The Genocide Education Project regarding the claims made about the organization in the piece.

The Genocide Education Project is a nonprofit organization that assists educators in teaching about human rights and genocide, particularly the Armenian Genocide, by developing and distributing instructional materials, providing access to teaching resources and organizing educational workshops.

It is important to recognize that Facing History and Ourselves has done a tremendous job in teaching about the Armenian Genocide in secondary schools across the country. They have withstood significant pressure to exclude this history from their materials and educational events, which is sincerely appreciated and commended. The Genocide Education Project has enjoyed a productive relationship with Facing History by sharing our resources and information as we pursue parallel goals.

The GenEd board has communicated to FHAO our serious concern about its misinterpretation of the ADL's position on the Armenian Genocide, urging them to reevaluate and revise it accordingly.  We continue to be in contact with Facing History, discussing the situation in a responsible way.

Sincerely,
Raffi Momjian
