Fire Reported at Yerevan's Nairit Chemical Plant

A fire broke out on the premises of the Nairit chemical plant in Yerevan earlier today.

The cause of the fire remains unclear according to the Ministry of Emergency Situations.

In May 2009, an explosion at the plant killed four employees.

The Soviet-era chemical giant has stood idle since 2010, but a crew is on hand to maintain whatever infrastructure and assets are left.

Update: The ministry later reported that the fire had been isolated and under control, and that the burning material isn't toxic.
