Armenia Re-elected as Member of the UNESCO Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict

The 7th meeting of the UNESCO Parties to the 1999 Second Protocol to the 1954 The Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict took place yesterday.

The meeting was also aimed at electing members of the Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, informs the Armenian Foreign Ministry.

There were ten candidate countries for the six vacant positions, and Armenia was among elected ones – Italy (48 votes), Armenia (44 votes), Cambodia (43 votes), Japan (42 votes), El Salvador (39) and Egypt (32 votes). Thus, Armenia was re-elected for 2017-2021.

Armenia was first elected as a committee member in 2013.

The Committee aims at elaboration of guidelines for the implementation of the Second Protocol, monitoring its implementation process, review of periodic reports of member countries, and provision of enhanced protection status for cultural property.
